Abstract
This study addresses the impacts of international migration on macro-level population dynamics (population aging and decline) and micro-level patterns of demographic behavior (fertility and internal migration). It is well known that preventing the aging of populations with international migration is extremely difficult. This study finds that given the long-lasting lowest-low fertility in South Korea the magnitude of international migration needed to preserve the current population size is well beyond the reasonable range of migration flows. This study suggests that only a combination of policy measures such as fertility increase, investment and utilization of human resources, international migration, reforms of social systems may reduce the negative impacts of population aging and decline.
