Abstract
In Korea, convenience-oriented foods are becoming increasingly popular with increases in double income families, single-person households, and lone elderly households. Simultaneously, people are demanding social support and a system that help them prevent chronic diseases and maintain healthy diet. This study was aimed at examining the status of nutrition management service in the US and drawing implications for the nutrition industry in Korea. Many US academic health science hospitals have nutrition support teams and provide specialized nutrition services which connected local communities (home, health center, school, industry, market etc.). And the US government has provided congregate nutrition services and home-delivered meal service for their people. There are nutrition management service markets (shopping helper, customized diet program, weight-loss clinic etc.) in the US industry. Therefore, we need to establish policies to promote and develop for the nutrition management service industry. To establish preferred policies, it’s look at from socioeconomic, industrial and academically aspect. We need to develop its policy in light of these directions: the reduction of national health expenditure, the expansion nutrition management service market, the promotion of fusion between other industry, the activation of research and development for nutritional service, the research of customized nutrient management service program. In conclusion, we should create good environments for nutrition management service industry to improve the health of the people.
