Abstract
The purpose of this study is to develop a parent education program for improving self-esteem and child-rearing behavior of the overseas Koreans in Laos, and verify its effectiveness. For this purpose, pre-program and post-program analysis was conducted by using Rosenberg (1965)’s self-esteem scale and Huh (1999)’s child-rearing behavior scale on the 11 parents, who participated the five session program every Wednesday morning for two hours at Laos Korean School. The major results of this study can be summarized as follows: First, the parents’ self-esteem was statistically and significantly improved. Second, the parents’ child-rearing behaviors were statistically improved. In the concrete, the parents’ rationality and affection were significantly increased, the parents’ inconsistency, over-interference, over-expectation, maltreatment, and neglect were significantly decreased. Based on the research results, practical implications and limitations were discussed to develop parent education program for the overseas Koreans’ self-esteem and rational child-rearing.
