Establishment and Operation of the Health and Welfare Statistical Information System: 2nd Year

I. Background and Objectives of the Study

ㅁ The Project is currently in its first phase of the system development in accordance with the Informatization Strategy of the Information System for Health and Welfare Statistics. ㅁ The purpose of the Project is to increase public access to health and welfare statistics, establish a system to provide the statistics in an integrated way, and provide a focal point to play key role in the service of health and welfare statistics.

II. Contents and Methods of the Study

ㅁ Started the first phase of the system development in accordance with the Information Strategy Planning. ㅁ Conducted an analysis on the data from the previous research papers and on the statistical tables resulted from the previous surveys which have higher potential to be used as basic data for policy making. ㅁ Outsourced the first phase of the system development to an experienced outside system integration company. ㅁ Determined the direction and scope of work of the 2nd phase of the system development.

III. Results of the Study

ㅁ Conducted an analysis on the survey items of three surveys conducted with regularity. ㅁ Completed the first phase of the development of a web portal for health and welfare statistics. ㅁ Maximized visual effects of the statistics to provide user friendly statistical services. ㅁ Laid the foundations for setting up survey questions standards by compiling statistical terms used in health and welfare surveys and publishing them on the web portal. ㅁ Established a micro data management system to provide the public with the survey data and suggested data management methods. ㅁ The Direction of the System Construction ○ The first phase of the system development was focused on user friendliness, but the second phase will emphasize advancing functional efficiency to maximize the work efficiency of web portal managers. ○ Update statistical data on health and welfare. ○ Prepare a method to collect local statistics and expand local health and welfare statistical service. ○ Establish publicity plans for the web portal and publish a webzine. ○ Carry out the second phase of the Information Strategy Planning, including improving the service functions made in the first phase of the system development.
