A Qualitative Case Study on the Life of Dismissed Airline Workers: Focused on the Dismissal Experience of Low-cost Carrier Cockpit Crew

| dc.description.abstract | 본 연구의 목적은 항공사 해고승무원들의 삶을 탐구하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 총 4명의 운항승무원을 참여자로 선정하였고, 1:1 심층면담을 통해 자료를 수집했다. 수집된 자료는 Creswell(2013)이 제시한 사례연구 방법을 적용하여 분석하였다. 연구 절차에 따라 첫째, ‘사례 내 분석’을 통해 ‘항공사 해고승무원의 삶의 맥락’을 개별적으로 드러냈다. 둘째, ‘사례 간 분석’을 통해 총 15개의 사례 간 통합 주제를 추출했다. 분석 결과 ‘꿈꿔왔던 일’, ‘자부심 가득했던 일’, ‘새 직장에 만족함’, ‘무언가 이상이 있음을 감지함’이라는 해고 이전의 삶을 드러내었다. 그리고 해고 이후 참여자들은 ‘우려가 현실이 됨’, ‘망망대해에 내던져짐’, ‘상대적 박탈감’, ‘비난에 대한 서글픔’, ‘억울함’, ‘내 자리를 지키려는 투쟁’, ‘아르바이트 전선으로’, ‘가족에 대한 고마움’, ‘극단적 선택을 회피함’, ‘깨진 철밥통’, ‘노동에 대한 관점의 전환’이라는 어려움을 겪고 있었다. 연구자들은 이와 같은 연구 결과를 바탕으로 항공사 해고노동자들을 위한 심리적 지원서비스 제공, 자조모임 지원, 해고승무원 일자리 제공 및 교육 등이 가능한 통합기관의 필요성을 제시하였다. 또한, 항공승무원(항공종사자) 공제회 필요성 제시 및 항공업계의 특성이 반영된 복지정책 개발과 적용을 제안했다. |
| dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this study is to delve into the lives of dismissed airline workers. For this, a total of 4 participants were selected, and data were collected through 1:1 in-depth interviews. The collected data were analyzed by applying Creswell’s (2013) case study method. According to the research procedure, first, ‘the context of the lives of dismissed airline workers’ was individually revealed through ‘within-case analysis’. Second, a total of 15 integration topics between cases were extracted through ‘cross-case analysis’. Results show that they revealed their lives before dismissal as ‘the job they dreamed of’, ‘what they were proud of’, ‘satisfied with one’s job’, ‘sensing that something is wrong’. After the dismissal, the participants suffered from ‘concerns becoming a reality’, ‘thrown away in the open sea’. ‘relative deprivation’, ‘sadness from criticism’, ‘fury on unfairness’, ‘over-the-counter struggles’, ‘out into the part-time job battlefront’, ‘appreciation for family’, ‘struggles to keep one’s place’, ‘avoiding extreme choices’, ‘broken rice bowl’, and ‘change of perspective on labor’. Based on these findings, researchers suggested the need for an integrated institution that can provide psychological support services for dismissed airline workers, support self-help groups, and provide jobs as well as education to dismissed airline crews. In addition, they proposed the development and application of welfare policies that reflect the necessity of the aviation crew (airline workers) mutual aid association and the characteristics of the aviation industry. |
