Abstract
This study conducts a comprehensive review of demographic indicators/models and provides the framework for strengthening the demographic evidence base. Firstly, we discuss the theoretical background and conceptual framework for demographic monitoring. Secondly, we provide a detailed overview of monitoring for 1) the components of demographic change, such as fertility, mortality, and migration, 2) population growth and structure (composition), 3) regional-level demographic change, and 4) future demographic change. We also review the development and use of demographic models for monitoring demographic change. Finally, this study discusses emerging issues and challenges in planning and managing monitoring activities.
