| dc.description.abstract | 중국은 1970년대 중반부터 강력한 산아제한 정책을 실시했다. 그 결과, 합계출산율(Total fertility rate)이 1970년대 5명 수준(1970년 5.648)에서 1990년대 2명 이하(1993년 1.868)로 떨어졌고(World Bank fertility rate, 해당 연도), 경제활동인구(15~64세)의 비율은 빠르게 증가했다. 또한 양성평등 이념이 자리 잡았던 중국에서 1970년대 말까지 실시된 계획경제체제는 노동력에 대한 수요를 증가시켜 여성의 노동시장 진출을 촉진했다(Liu & Zhang, 2000, p. 334). 1980년대부터 1990년대까지 중국 여성의 경제활동참가율은 70%를 상회했는데, 이는 다른 아시아 국가들보다 높은 수준이었다 (Maurer-Fazio, Hughes & Zhang, 2007, p. 182). 1990년대 시장경제체제가 도입되면서 시작된 구조조정으로 많은 여성이 실직하기는 했지만, 1990년대말까지 중국의 여성 취업률은 여전히 높은 수준인 73%를 유지하였다(ILO, 2015). 이후 중국 여성의 취업률은 지속적으로 하락세를 보였지만 지난해(2017년) 중국 여성의 경제활동참가율(63.03%)(Gender Statistics, The World Bank)은 같은 해 경제개발협력기구(Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development: OECD)의 여성경제활동참가율(60.2%)보다 높았다(OECD,2018). |
