Abstract
This study analyzes National Health Insurance (NHI)
cohort database (for years 2002~2013) to estimate
the risk of illnesses attributable to drinking. Based
on the estimates of risk of illnesses attributable
to alcohol, the socioeconomic cost of problematic
drinking are calculated..
We find that high-risk drinking significantly
increases the relative risk of all alcohol-attributable
illnesses and the total socioeconomic costs of
alcohol-attributable illnesses amount to KRW
4.6942 trillion.
