A Study of the Influence on Life Satisfaction for Marriage Immigrants on Substantive Citizenship - Focusing on Obtaining their Korean Nationality -

Abstract

This study aims to examine of civil rights for marriage immigrants affecting the life satisfaction, based on the citizenship theory from T. H. Marshall. In this study, obtain of nationality was considered as formal citizenship and examined what differences occur between two groups according to whether they obtained korean nationality. Moreover, substantive citizenship was divided into three parts, namely economic, social, and political citizenship and these were used to find out how developing type of social right have affecting on the life satisfaction of marriage immigrants. For the purpose of this research, National Survey of Multi-cultural Families 2012 was used and analyzed with hierarchical regression analysis. Findings from this study showed that both groups had economic factor affecting on life satisfaction, but the group of korean nationality obtainers had more various factors such as economic, social, and political citizenships than people who did not obtain nationality. As shown through this findings, formal citizenship for marriage immigrants influence on their life and obtaining of korean nationality is the precondition for essential citizenship. Based on the study findings, implications for practice to improve life satisfaction of married immigrants and for future studies were discussed.
