Abstract
This study aimed at the relationship between Heat Index and mortality changes in 25 gu in Seoul from 2000 to 2011 in summer (June, July, August) by using the regional data, the weather data and the mortality data. The Heat Index was calculated via the weather data from the Climate Change Information Center of Seoul Meteorological Administration and each of the local constituencies observed Meteorological Station installed since 2000 in Seoul. In addition, using the detailed raw data on death from the micro-data of the National Statistical Office which includes the social and economic characteristics. The cause of death is limited to respiratory and cardiovascular disease which might be regarded as susceptible to high temperature and the sample is restricted to the age of 65 above. The results of the Panel analysis say that the Heat Index induces the mortality of vulnerable groups to increase, and additionally the elderly people living alone were analyzed to be vulnerable to extreme hot weather. On the other hand, it shows that the number of hospitals and green coverage area was effective in reducing mortality.
