Abstract
This study analyzed the various factors affecting acculturation level, which is measured by an adaptation to Korean culture and a maintenance of mother culture, among female marriage immigrants. 556 female marriage immigrants residing in Seoul, Keonggi, and Chungcheong area recruited from various community service agencies to complete a series of self-reported questionnaires. A hierarchical multiple regression analysis was conducted and the results were as follows: age, the length of stay in Korea, residence area, Korean nationality, self-efficacy and family relation affected the adaptation level to Korean culture. Among these variables the most powerful influencing factors were family relation and self-efficacy. Also, the length of stay in Korea, self-efficacy, social support and perceived social discrimination influenced on the maintenance level of mother culture. Based on these results, the importance of enhancing self-efficacy and family relation, and increasing social support and social atmosphere respecting female marriage immigrant"s mother culture were discussed. In addition, the implications of this study for social work practice and policy were suggested.
