dc.description.abstract	이 글은 영국의 인구고령화와 노인빈곤 수준을 개괄적으로 검토하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 영국은 한국에 비해 고령화 정도가 높지만, 여타 유럽 복지국가들에 비해 출산율과 유소년인구 비율이 높아 상대적으로 점진적인 고령화가 진행 중이다. 영국은 지난 25년간 강력한 노인빈곤 완화 정책을 펼침으로써 노인빈곤율은 크게 감소하였으나, 높은 고령인구 비중과 노인에 대한 소득보장 지출의 지속적 증가는 공공재정에 대한 강한 압박으로 작용하고 있다. 현재 영국의 노인 집단은 인구 집단 내에서 가장 빈곤율이 낮지만 최근의 복지 긴축과 맞물려 노인빈곤율이 증가하는 추세이므로 향후 노인빈곤 추이와 이에 대응하는 사회 정책에 대한 지속적인 관심과 연구가 요구된다.
