휠체어를 사용하는 장애인 당사자가 대인관계에서 경험하는 태도 장벽

Abstract

본 연구는 장애인이 대인관계에서 비장애인으로부터 경험하는 태도 장벽과, 태도의 밑바탕에 깔려있는 비장애인의 장애인에 대한 인식을 파악하고자 하였다. 연구방법으로 휠체어를 사용하는 지체･뇌병변장애를 가진 성인 남녀장애인 7명을 대상으로 심층면접을 실시하고, Braun과 Clarke(2006)가 제시한 주제분석 방법으로 분석하였다. 분석 결과, ‘장애인이 대인관계에서 경험하는 비장애인의 부정적 정서와 행동’, ‘비장애인의 부정적 태도에 내재된 장애인에 대한 인식’ 2개의 상위범주 아래, 총 7개 하위범주와 14개 주제가 도출되었다. 본 연구는 휠체어를 사용하는 장애인이 비장애인과의 대인관계에서 어떠한 부정적 태도와 사회적 인식을 경험하며, 이러한 경험을 장애인 당사자의 관점에서 어떻게 해석하는지 탐색했다는 점에서 연구의 의의가 있다. 연구결과를 바탕으로 장애인의 신체적 차이를 인정하되 동등한 인격체로서 존중하고 권리를 보장하는 인권관점이 강조되어야 할 것을 제안하였다.

This study aimed to understand the attitudinal barriers experienced by people with disabilities in interpersonal relations with the non-disabled, and the underlying perceptions. Seven adult men and women with disabilities with physical and brain lesions were interviewed in-depth and analyzed by the subject analysis method suggested by Braun & Clarke (2006). As a result of the analysis, under the two upper categories, ‘negative attitude and behavior of the non-disabled experienced by people with disabilities’ and ‘perceptions of people with disabilities inherent in the negative attitude of the non-disabled’, a total of 7 subcategories and 14 themes were derived. This study is meaningful in that it explored what negative attitudes and social perceptions the physically disabled experience in social relationships with the non-disabled and how they interpret these experiences from their own perspectives. Based on the results, the study suggested that more emphasis should be placed on human rights perspectives to recognize the physical differences of the disabled but to respect and guarantee rights as equal persons.
