물질적 박탈이 우울에 미치는 영향: 생애주기별·박탈영역별 효과를 중심으로

Abstract

본 연구는 물질적 박탈이 우울에 미치는 영향을 생애주기별, 박탈 영역별로 검증해보고자 하는데 그 목적이 있다. 분석을 위하여 한국보건사회연구원의 「사회문제와 사회통합 실태조사」 원자료를 활용하였으며, 4개 연령집단(청년, 중년, 장년, 노년)에 대하여 총 22개 박탈 항목의 합산점수와 기초생활박탈, 주거박탈, 의료박탈, 미래박탈의 4개 영역별 박탈점수를 독립변수로 하고 CESD-11 우울점수를 종속변수로 하는 다중회귀분석을 실시하였다. 분석 결과, 첫째, 중장년이 청년에 비해, 노인이 중장년에 비해 우울 수준이 높게 나타났다. 둘째, 물질적 박탈은 통계적으로 유의하게 우울 수준에 영향을 미쳤으며, 그 영향은 연령이 증가할수록 커지는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 연령이 증가할수록 삶의 성숙도가 높아짐으로써 박탈의 우울 영향이 감소한다고 주장하는 생존경험 가설보다는 만회할 기회가 점점 줄어듦으로써 박탈이 우울에 미치는 영향이 증가한다고 주장하는 제한된 미래 가설을 지지하는 결과이다. 셋째, 박탈의 영역별로 볼 때, 기초생활박탈은 모든 연령대에서 우울 수준을 높이는데 유의미한 영향을 미쳤으며, 주거박탈은 중장년기와 노년기 우울에, 미래대비박탈은 중장년기 우울에, 의료박탈은 노년기 우울에 통계적으로 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 통해 생애주기 전반에 걸쳐 물질적 박탈을 경감하려는 노력과 함께 연령대별로 차별화된 정책 우선 순위를 설정할 필요가 있음을 제시하였다.

The purpose of this study is to verify the effects of material deprivation on depression by life cycle and area of deprivation. The analysis showed that senior citizens had a higher level of depression compared to young and middle-aged people. Second, material deprivation has statistically significantly affected the level of depression, and the impact has been shown to grow as age increases. These results support a limited future hypothesis that claims that deprivation's impact on depression increases by less and less chance to make up for, rather than a survival experience hypothesis that claims that the effect of deprivation decreases as age increases. Third, by area of deprivation, basic living deprivation had a significant effect on increasing levels of depression in all ages, housing deprivation was found to have a significant impact on depression in mid- and old age, future preparedness deprivation on depression in mid- to long-term, and medical deprivation had a statistically significant impact on depression in old age. These results suggest the need to set policy priorities differentiated by age groups, along with efforts to alleviate material deprivation throughout the life cycle.
