조부모의 사회경제적 자원이 부모의 첫째아 출산에 미치는 영향

Abstract

출신 가족 배경에 따른 인구학적 행위의 불평등 현상이 한국 사회 내에서 증가하고 있다. 한국 사회 대다수의 부모들은 자녀들의 결혼과 출산에 적극적인 지원을 하며, 자녀들이 어려움 없이 생애과정을 경험할 수 있도록 도와주고 있다. 이러한 사회적 맥락에서 본 연구는 결혼 후 첫 출산 행위 또한 부모의 사회경제적 자원에 따라 차이가 있을 것이라 보고 한국노동패널 1차년도부터 20차년도 자료를 사용하여 분석을 실시해 보았다. 분석 결과에 따르면, 조부모의 금융 자산과 학력 수준은 부모의 첫째아 출산에 긍정적인 효과가 있는 것으로 나타나 조부모의 사회경제적 자원은 부모의 출산 행위에 영향을 미치고 있었다. 이 같은 결과는 한국 사회 내 출산 행위가 출신 가족의 사회경제적 배경에 따라 불평등한 방식으로 나타날 수 있다는 가능성을 보여준다.

Inequalities in demographic behavior according to the family background are increasing in South Korea. The majority of parents in Korea provide active support for their children’s marriage and childbirth and help them experience life-cycle transitions without difficulty. In this social context, this study predicts that the first childbirth after marriage will also differ according to parental resources. According to the results, financial assets and educational background of paternal grandparents had positive effect on childbirth. These results showed that childbirth behavior in Korean society may be unequal depending on the socioeconomic background of the family.
