최근 청년들이 결혼을 미루거나 포기하는 여러 가지 이유 중 하나로 주거 마련의 어려움이 지적되고 있다. 결혼에 영향을 미치는 다양한 요인 중 주거문제는 특히 개인적인 노력으로 해결이 어려운 현실이기 때문에 결혼을 하고자 하는 인구에 대해서는 지원을 통해 결혼이행이 쉬워지도록 돕는 정책적 노력이 필요한 실정이다. 본 연구는 미혼 청년의 사회경제적 특성에 따른 주거 실태를 파악하고, 현재 및 향후 결혼 시 마련하고자 하는 주거 특성과 결혼 의향 간의 연관성을 분석하였다. 이를 통해 결혼을 하고자 하는 미혼 청년들에게 도움을 줄 수 있는 주거지원 방안에 대한 시사점을 제시하였다.
Adequate housing is a basic human right and an important determinant of quality of life. Recently, young people in Korea tend to postpone or give up marriage because of housing issues. Little research, however, had documented the relationships between housing and marriage. The purpose of this study is to show the real situations of current housing among young single people and also to examine the degree to which housing characteristics are associated with marriage intentions of young single adults. And it seeks to identify differences in gender, living regions, economic status in terms of relationships between housing characteristics and marriage intentions. By doing so, the finding of this study will help suggests directions of policies to improve the housing conditions for young people who want to get married. For the study, we conduct online survey of unmarried people’s real current housing situations and their needs of future house they will prepare when they get married and of housing policies. The study finds that many of young people have marriage intentions. Of course, burden from cost for current housing is related to marriage intentions among young people. However, conditions of housing for marriage are more associated with marriage intentions of young people. And we also figure out those relationships between characteristics of current or future housing and marriage intentions varies by gender, regions, and economic status. Finally, this study provides some suggestions to improve housing policies for young people. In particular, providing policy and programs targeted at and tailored for young people who have marriage intention but cannot get married because of conditions could help get rid of barriers to marriage. Further, government needs to provide housing supports with more diverse methods.
