dc.description.abstract	노인인구의 증가와 평균수명의 증대로 인하여 죽음의 질을 어떻게 확보할 것인가에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 노인의 죽음은 노인의 양적 증대와 더불어 건강이 악화되는 시점부터 죽음까지 의 기간이 연장되고 있다는 점에서 죽음의 당사자뿐만 아니라 남은 가족 및 지인, 서비스 제공자 등의 삶과 웰빙에도 영향을 미치게 된다. 이러한 맥락에서 웰다잉에 대한 2개년도 연구가 기획되었으며, 본 연구는 1차 연도 연구로 현재 한국 사회에서 공유되고 있는 웰다잉의 개념을 구체화하여 관련 정책 방안을 모색하는 데 필요한 경험적 기반을 마련하고자 한다. 이를 위하여 좋은 죽음의 구성요소 및 국내외의 법적, 정책적 기반을 검토하고, 이에 기초하여 우리사회에 웰다잉이 구현될 수 있는 정책과제를 도출하였다. 2차 연도 연구를 통해서는 구체적인 정책 방안을 모색할 예정이다. As the population ages, the quality of death becomes an important issue for many people. Because well-dying is a part of well-being and has effects on significant others left behind, how to enhance the quality of death becomes an issue that calls for social response. In addition, since “well-dying” involves multidimensional needs (including medical, economic, emotional, and spiritual needs), it requires a comprehensive approach. Under these circumstances, this study is aimed at grasping the essential components of well-dying among Korean middle-aged and older persons. Also, this study intends to better understand people’s perceptions of, and needs, services concerning well-dying. This study consists of six parts. The first part is a review of previous research, some theoretical issues and current statistics on well-dying. The second part discusses some specific examples of legal base and policy actions concerning well-dying in selected countries. The third part presents main types of attitudes toward well-dying derived using Q methodology. In the forth part, we discuss main findings from a telephone survey we conducted of a total of 15,000 people aged 40~79. The fifth part reviews the legal base and policy measures taken for well-dying in Korea and evaluates them from the standpoint of the concept of good death and of middle-aged and older adults in need of services to help them prepare for well-dying. The last part presents policy suggestions and priority setting for well-dying.
