dc.description.abstract	박탈지수는 지역의 박탈 혹은 결핍 수준을 지수화하여 지역의 사회경제적 수준을 대표할 목적으로 만들어진 지표라고 할 수 있다. 최근의 연구 결과에 따르면 지역의 박탈 정도는 빈곤 수준뿐만 아니라 지역 주민의 건강이나 사망률에도 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타나 그 정책적 중요성이 대두하였다. 영국은 박탈지수를 주기적으로 산출하여 지역 간의 상대적 박탈 정도를 주시하고 있으며, 지방정부에 대한 자원 배분의 기준을 '필요'에 두고 지역 간 격차를 줄이기 위해 자원 배분이 더 많이 필요한 지역을 찾아내기 위한 방법으로 지역박탈지수를 활용하고 있다.
